24. Prayer book and almanac 16th century IThe manuscript is an example of a typical prayer book for personal use, as it was compact and thus easy to carry. It contains the Seder Tefillot, or the order of prayers to be recited throughout the year, and was bound together with a Tabella cursus lunaris for the year 1567. The need for a handy reference for determining the phases of the moon, and thus religious holidays and hours of prayer, explains the combination of these two texts. The Medici binding and chain were added later. |
