6. PL III/973 25 x 13 cm The last tablet from a polyptych, the rest of which has been lost. In the 6th–7th century AD someone—possibly a schoolteacher—used its now-waxless surface to write a Coptic alphabet, a script adapting the Greek alphabet to the Egyptian language, with the addition of seven demotic signs. |
