Gregory the Great, Moralia in Iob

The manuscript is divided into two volumes, the work of at least two scribes. The first transcribed the entire first volume and part of the second. The work of the two scribes was most likely carried out in two phases, apparent also in the decoration, which is made up of numerous historiated initials […]. These are the work of an artist active in Saint-Bertin, whose hand is recognisable in other manuscripts produced in the local scriptorium, primary among which is the Bible ms. 1 in the Bibliothèque de l’agglomération in Saint-Omer. At the beginning of the second volume (f. 1v) there is a superb pen drawing […] showing elements in common with the art of the Meuse Valley and, in particular, with the art of the great goldsmith, Nicolaus de Verdun. ]
